day 28 2012

I'm a worshiper of practicality, and it includes applying on make-up. Once I read a beauty product campaign that says: "Life is complicated enough, make up shouldn't be." The message lingers. Awesome slogan, indeed.

If you're like me (can't be bothered with weighty make-up kit), I'm going to share some tips and tricks that might just work for you too:

1.For the base, you can try Maybelline's Blemish Balm (BB cream - Rp39,000). It can minimize your budget for powder purchase because it's a foundation-powder combo

2.Unlike other girls who can have a few similar shades of lipsticks, I can survive with the basics: brownish pink (for work), nude (for daily errands), and red (for special occasions) - trust me, red lipstick is a lifetime investment; it'll make you feel confident, sexy and glam instantly. Also note that not only does applying lipstick with brush more economical, but it also makes the color more long lasting

3.Sheer-colored lip gloss is a must-have. Go for Maybelline or L'oreal's

4.For cheeks, I have a pink blush-on that can go all the way, from morning to evening. Sometimes, if I feel like matching my cheeks with lipstick tone, I just apply some lipstick on my cheeks. Bodyshop has lip-and-cheek color series (Rp 169,000), but I'm good enough with my lipstick :D

5.Basic tones of eyeshadow (brown and gold) are always compatible in all kinds of occasion, but don't ever hesitate to go darker (black, dark blue, gray, silver) for a Kardashian look or brighter (sky blue, green, violet) for a young and playful look

6.Eyeliner plays a big role in giving character to the eyes. A simple cat-eyes plus striking red lipstick can put you under the spotlight. There are several options of eyeliners that you can choose: pencil, liquid or pot (applied with thin brush). So far, I think the eyeliner on the pot is still the winner. It's easy to use and quite long lasting. Bobbi Brown launched one, but it costs a fortune (Rp350,000), but I noticed that Maybelline also sells it at a more reasonable price (Rp79,000). Colored eyeliners seemed fun, but actually you can create a similar effect by dampening your thin brush and dip it onto a colored eyeshadow. Voila, colored eyeliner is ready to be applied

7.Mascara is an important one. Try to find one with a brush that looks like a comb. That way, the effect will be more natural, and the mascara won't lump on your lashes

8.Eyebrow liner is also an essential item. Don't use black eyebrow pencil because it'll make your face look harsh. Go for brown Viva eyebrow pencil (approx. Rp20,000), then complete with brushing your eyebrows in upward movement with old and dry mascara

9.For cleansing the eyeshadow, mascara and lipstick, you can either use make-up remover or baby oil on a cotton ball. Make sure your face is clean before you hit the bed

10.Exfoliate the skin by scrubbing it once every two weeks for dead-cell regeneration. Avoid touching the face with dirty hands, and don't pick on your pimples or black heads. If necessary, go to a dermatologist for skin problems that cannot be resolved with OTC (over the counter) products. Anyway, all the make-up won't do any good if your skin is dull and unhealthy, right?

Hope they can be useful :D
